Her light
Dehvyan Womack
My mom is here, still by my side,
A powerful woman, my endless guide.
She shaped the person I’ve become today,
And walks beside me every single day.
She gave me siblings, a loving band,
Helping me always, lending a hand.
Through grief, through sadness, through anger and strife,
She’s been my anchor, the light of my life.
She saw my pain, she understood,
She found me a therapist, she did what she could.
Through phases and music, emo and all,
She caught me whenever I feared a fall.
Her Christmases glowed with warmth and delight,
Her love filled the home, made everything bright.
She taught me to cook, to laugh, to be me,
To never let others decide who I see.
She taught me to stand, to speak, to fight,
To hold my ground, to own my light.
She stayed up late to help with homework,
To calm my worries when shadows lurk.
She made sure I knew I was never alone,
Her voice, her hugs, felt like home
